Abstract
The summary sought to find out the level of awareness of Osteoarthritic patient regarding joint protection and conservation techniques of the involve lower extremities. It aimed to determine the knowledge of specific aspect of joint protection and conservation technique such as proper way of picking-up objects, proper way of ascending and descending stairs with and without assistive device and proper way of sitting and standing up from a chair. The study was conducted at Philippine Orthopedic Center, the respondents of the study were patients diagnosed to have osteoarthritis involving any of the joints of the lower extremity. The research utilized a descriptive type a study to gather facts from the respondents about the level of awareness regarding joint protection and conservation techniques. Using questionnaires written in Tagalog medium were distributed to 55 respondents from the months of July to September 1997. Based on the gathered data, it was found out majority of the osteoarthritic patients have inadequate knowledge regarding proper joint protection and conservation technique of the involved joints of the lower extremities.
