Abstract

The greatest problems dealt with in Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in terms of severity is the complete Quadriplegia which comprises 55% of all SCI cases reported. Among these data is the fact that about 48% of the time, vehicular accidents is the cause of these conditions, 80% of which involves the male sex group. Moreover, it leaves the greatest amount of neurologic and functional deficits to the involve individual. The objective of the study was conducted a thorough re-evaluation of the patient, thus, formulating a problem list which will justify their occurrences. Furthermore, this study aimed to provide suggestions that could help solve the siad problem. This literature presented the case of a 62 y/o, male, complete quadriplegic SCI patient with a neurologic level at C6 and a zone of partial preservation at C7. The researchers were able to emphasize to the patient and his family members the importance of complying to the home instructions given and the corresponding architectural modifications. Home instructions given included proper bed positioning and pressure relief as well as functional exercises which serves as preparation to functional training. The instructions and modifications given were deemed as the best considering the present status of the patient. However, the time frame given was not enough to enumerate the real outcome frame given was not enough to enumerate the real outcome. In the course of the study, the group acquired knowledge on both theoretical and practical aspects of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), that an individualized approach should be done for each patient. As for this case, the patient was considered fortunate having a full financial and emotional support of his family which differs him from other SCI patients. The importance of rehabilitation was also realized that it must not end in the clinic but should be continued on a home program basis with follow-up. The success of rehabilitation does not only mean compliance to the rehabilitation treatment in the clinics but more importantly, the inert motivation of the patient.
