Abstract

The human brain guides all thoughts, behaviors, motivations, personal traits, talents, movements abilities, cognitive abilities and social skills. A traumatic brain injury can have a devastating impact on the lives of the injured person and the family, In lieu with this, the researchers aim to re-evaluate the patient a year after TBI. This is case of W.B., a thirty-two year old, non-hypertensive, non-diabetic male patient from Imus, Cavite with present GCS 15/15. The patient sustained a traumatic brain injury secondary to vehicular accident of counter-coup nature. The group first re-evaluated the patient's present clinical condition, from this group derived several recommendations regarding the patient's home setting. The patient was also advised on energy conservation techniques that would be beneficial in performing his activities of daily living easier. Some of the suggested home modification were utilized by the patient which according to him made moving about his house less difficult. The full outcome of the study did not materialize completely due to the limited time frame allotted for this case report. While conducting the study, the group/researchers were able to review about Traumatic Brain Injury and other related literature and at the same time gaining the trust and friendship of our patient. The researchers hope that with this study, readers would acquire additional knowledge concerning severe traumatic brain injury, its clinical features, prognosis, outcome, etc. through analogy of the typical textbook description to a more practical view since we are dealing with a patient that really exists. Recommendations were made concerning the general arrangement of the house, a home exercise program (stretching, strengthening and endurance) as well as suggestions or proper body mechanics.
