Abstract

Basketball is the most popular team sport in the Philippines. With the establishment of the Philippines Basketball Association (PBA), the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) and the New Metropolitan Basketball Association, athletes are pushing themselves to the limits of their strength and working out to the zenith of their physical capability. DLSU-D, being a member of the NCRAA, competes against rivals with intensity. Despite crude training program. limited equipment facilities and administrative support the athletes strive hard for the schools pride and for the love of basketball. The study aimed to determine the musculoskeletal status of the Mens Senior Basketball Varsity Team of DLSU-D of which the results will given trainers and coaches insight in developing correct training program for the players strength, agility, and endurance and thus preventing the risk and occurrence of medical and sports-related injuries of complications before an athletes can qualify for the team. This study followed the descriptive analysis approach wherein the findings from the survey were tallied, consolidated, analyzed and conclusions were formulated. This study was conducted at the DLSU-D gymnasium where the twelve athletes from the DLSU-D Mens Senior Basketball team, with ages ranging from 17 to 22 y/o are having their practice sessions. The research instrument used in this study is the standard physical evaluation from issued and used by the Philippine Sports Commission Medical Department. this evaluation form included a pre-participation physical examination, past medical history, and personal habits, musculoskeletal examination, goniometric measurements and special tests. Each item in the survey form was tallied. The research team used the frequency distribution table and the corresponding percentile equivalent in preventing and analyzing data were completed. Based on the study conducted, the musculoskeletal status of the Mens Senior Basketball Varsity Team Of DLSU-D is within normal and functional limits. The researchers recommend that the coaches and trainers be aware of the players personal habit as to drinking of alcohol, smoking and use of prohibited drugs for these vices alter the performance of the athletes.
