Abstract
The general objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of paraffin wax bath in conjunction with massage for the temporary relief of arthritic pain on both hands of female patients aged 50-80 years old. Our study is focused on two treatment modalities, which are paraffin wax bath and massage. Paraffin wax bath is a superficial heating agent using conduction as a primary form of heat transfer and it is used in rheumatoid arthritis. Experimentation has been done and the researchers asked supplement questionnaires. The subjects of the study were arthritic patients with hand pain handled by the authors in their rotation from the month of August to October at Veterans Memorial Medical Center. First, the authors collected all arthritic patients and only 10 subjects were chosen who have met the criteria set by the authors themselves. The researchers used the standard PWB machine with specified intensity and duration of application as follow: 1. PWB alone, dipping method on (B) hands x 20-=30 minutes and 2. PWB dipping on both hands x 20-30 minutes followed by effleurage, distal to proximal x 10 minutes . A T-test between the difference of two means will be applied to examine data collected. This was to confirm the hypothesis tp be tested. Findings, Conclusions and Recommendations: will all the data gathered and proper experimentation performed, the authors concluded that the use of paraffin wax bath in conjunction with massage is more effective in the treatment of RA pain among elderly woman than using PWB alone. Hypotheses testing showed that computed it is greater than 2.31. The authors believe that further study regarding the effectivity of paraffin wax bath in conjunction with massage would be a great significance in establishing what management can really be beneficial to the patients especially when functional level of patients is concerned.
