Abstract

The general objective of the study was to compare the effectiveness of the De Lorme and Oxford Techniques in strengthening the quadraticeps mucles of stroke patients. The reason for choosing the quadraticeps muscle of stroke patients was that this study would not only compare the two techniques , but vcan also be beneficial in terms of finding out which of the two can increase an important muscle for ambulation in a common case seen in clinics. The study was conducted two satellite clinics of DLSU-HSC College of Physical Therapy, namely, DLSUMC- Dr. Isagani M. Darwin Rehab Unit and ABMH - PT Clinicd. 10 patients were chosen from the two clinics after screening based on a formulated inclusion criteria. And were randomly divided into two groups with one assigned to the De Lorme and the other exposed to the Oxford Technique. The results showed a slightly higher mean of the final 10 RM of De Lorme as to the Oxford Technique, 13 to 11 respectively. The t-test results showed that there was no significant difference between the mean of the two techniques. In conclusion, for ease of performance, the Oxford Technique is better, but the De Lorme Technique provided faster results. Recommendation: that future studies be done on other caeses, with longer time frame of the study period, bigger population, and that the study be handled personally by the researchers.
