Abstract
This study aimed to identify the 5 most common physical disabilities in ADL found among residents of San Jose , Dasmariñas, Cavite. Data were collected using a checklist/interview method from 220 household with an estimated population of 1,325 members. The researchers went on a house-to-house survey. The head of the family and in case of his absence, any reliable member of the family, was interview to find out if there is any member of the family who has a disability. The researchers noted down on the guideline questionnaire the items related to the individual disability/ Disabilities . Data collected were organized and put into frequency tables for analyses. The gathered data showed that, out of the 1,325 total number of family members only 124 residents were found to have either single or multiple disabilities. A total number of 180 disabilities were identified. Results showed that 9% of the study population has a disability, and the most common disability is ambulation (26%) primarily as a result of different orthopedic and/or neurologic conditions; most individuals with ambulation problems are in their adulthood (21-40 yrs old), male and common among the in classified group. The authors recommend that a community oriented rehab Program be established in San Jose , Dasmariñas, Cavite, to improve the awareness and knowledge of the residents with regards to the disabilities common in their barangay, thru this, early intervention could be given, which could help in one way or another , improve their way of life.
