Abstract

This study aimed to identify the areas of physical disabilities that are present in Barangay Sto. Niño 1 and 2, Area I, Dasmariñas, Cavite. Data were collected using questionnaire given to 100 households, with a study population 636. The researchers went to a house to house survey with a questionnaire forms. The head of the family was initially interviewed and in case of his member. Queries were given and the researchers noted down on the guideline questionnaire items related to the individuals disability/disabilities. Data collected were organized and put into tables for analysis. Data showed that 136 members of the 636 study population had either single or multiple disabilities. A total number of 251 disabilities were identified. Results showed the following : (1) 21.38% of the respondents had a disability; (2) The area of physical disability found have most of the disabilities was under the area of communication, majority of which was caused by visual impairments; (3) Most of the individuals with physical diisabilities under the area of communication were in their late adulthood (age above 60) , female , married and non-working. the authors recommend that a Community based Rehabilitation be established in Brgy. Sto. Niño 1 and 2 , Area G, Dasmariñas, Cavite that will provide its people with rehabilitation needs. The authors also recommend that a community assembly be conducted through the effort of available health workers in the barangay to awaken the minf=ds of the people about the existing/predominating impairments and disabilities in the community and that families of involved individuals participate during the community assembly for total commitment to the whole community program. It is also recommended that physiatrists, physical therapist, and nurses be part of the total CBR program in their community. Lastly, it is recommended that this partial disability survey be followed-up utilizing more time and manpower in order to gain a more accurate data of disabilities in the entire community.
