Abstract
This study has aimed to describe the sociodemographic data clinical profile of stroke patients referred to J.P Rizal Hospital between Jan. 1, 1994 and Dec. 21, 1996. To achieve that purpose we asked and researched from the files as well as from the actual patients themselves the what, how and why's of their stroke and their individual rehab. Results showed that : 1. 18% of the total number of patients referred to the rehab department of J.P Rizal Hospital between Jan 1,1994 and Dec. 31, 1996 was diagnosed with stroke. 2. Most of the patients diagnosed with stroke belonged to the 66-75 age , range that amounted to 40% of the total percentage of respondents. 3. Males had higher percentage than the female population diagnosed with stroke. 4. only 23% of the total number of respondents had very good compliance that spelled out of 75% and more of the prescribed PT treatment sessions.5. 46% of the respondents manifested with disabilities, tallied 164. 6. the respondents ability to return to work was tagged at 51%, amounting to 177 distributed throughout the four age ranges. 7. only 22% were fully independence level, tallied. The researchers recommend that more patient awareness programs be implemented, especially in the rural areas. There is also a great for home program education and further studies on why and how patients arrive at their decisions not to pursue further rehab.
