Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the availability of disability aids for wheelchair bound individuals on selected commercial establishment in Cavite. This study will hopefully serve as a baseline data with regards to availability of disability aids and help in future researchers seeking to evaluate the effectiveness of the existing disability aids. This descriptive study was conducted at 5 commercial establishments which were constructed or had undergone renovations after the Magna Carta for the disabled was passed on March 1992. The commercial establishments include SM Bacoor, Imus Sports Complex, Lotus Commercial, Robinson's Place Imus, FSC Highway Plaza Dasmariñas, sidewalk ramps and other aids were measured and compared to standard measurements based on sources indicated in the study. Results had shown that the site with the most nu,ber of disability aids as SM City Bacoor followed by robinson's Place Imus. Furthermore, SM City Bacoor had the most complete and comprehensive line of available disability aids. As a result of this study, the researchers found out that there in an inadequacy in the number of available disability aids seldom follow the prescribed minimum requirement mandated by law. Based on these results, the researchers recommend the providing information to the selected establishment by way of a letter regarding the deficiencies noted based on the guidelines set in the Magna Carta used as the criteria for the study.
