Abstract

This survey was aimed to identify the 5 most common disabilities in Barangay Luzviminda, Area c, Dasmariñas ,Cavite as of Oct. 1999. Data were collected by the researchers through the help of the barangay health workers through house-to -house survey using a questionnaire form to 100 households(approximately 500 individuals) out of the 700 households in barangay. Respondents taken were of different age groups, sex and lines of occupation. Data collected were tallied and put into tables and graphs were analyzed descriptively. Data showed that 40.4% of the 500 study population have physical disabilities , the most disabling of which is the disability that is concerned with eyesight, predominantly in the employed group, females at an age range of 41-60 years old (middle adulthood). The authors recommend that seminars be conducted in Brgy. Luzviminda, Area C, Dasmariñas, Cavite to make the residents aware of the disabilities that affect most of their brgy residents to avoid further regression of the said disabilities to the people who are already experiencing them through proper intervention techniques. The authors further recommend that not only the affected individuals be invited to the forum or seminar but all the residents as much as possible to educate them proper prevention techniques. Because of these recommendations, we hereby suggest that the College of PT of DLSU-HSC visit area through its community based rehabilitation program that can help address the disabilities of the residents.
