Abstract

This study aims to determine the most common musculoskeletal problems experienced by martial arts practitioners in Imus and Dasmariñas, Cavite. It focused on martial arts practitioners both male and female regardless of age and number of years training problems are related to their practice. There are 67% of Katate, Aikido, and Tae kwon do practitioners who experienced musculoskeletal problems related to their practice. 37% of these practitioners acquired ankle sprain which was found out to be the most common musculoskeletal problem among martial arts practitioners. Musculoskeletal problems among martial arts practitioners are common among ages 15-19 (60) . Males are more prone to injuries (61%) compared to female practitioners. As to number of years training, it is more common among Aikido and Karate practitioners who have been practicing for 1 year or more (57%). 54% of practitioners prefer not to seek medical consultation. We recommend that Martial Arts practitioners must be familiar with the different problems that they encounter for them to modify some techniques and to prevent recurrence of injuries. this study hopes to awaken those involved in martial arts for need of professional guidance that can obtained through PT.
