Abstract

The study was concerned with the prevalence of low back pain among female stripteasers in Q5 and Arcontica bar in Dasmariñas, Cavite. Data collected by the researchers revealed the demographic characteristics of the respondents according to age, number of years on the job, civil status and the number of children. The study will serve as a baseline information in determining the proportion of low back pain among the female stripteasers and the description of low back pain as to the type of pain, associated signs and symptoms, most common factor that causes low back pain and the effects of low back pain in the occupational performance of the subjects. A descriptive method was utilized to determine the prevalence of low back pain among female stripteasers in Q5 and Arcontica bar in Dasmariñas, Cavite. The study conducted at Q5 and Arcontica bar were approximately composed of 15 female stripteasers each bar. Data were collected through questionnaires given to ten subjects in each bar. Each questions were carefully explained. Data collected were organized and put into frequency distribution tables for analysis. Data showed that all of the 20 respondents have low back pain. Age bracket 19-21 and 25-27 had the highest numbers of respondents with low back pain with a rate of 35%. All of the respondents was dull pan. Most common associated signs and symptoms was weakness. Improper body mechanics and poor job performance were the most common cause and effect of low back pain among the respondents respectively. The authors recommend individual pamphlets to be given to each subjects which contain the cause and effects of low back pain, instructions of proper body mechanics, energy conservation techniques and exercises to strengthen trunk musculature.
