Abstract

The study was done to focus on the 3 most common faulty body mechanics done by laborer in fast food chains. Knowing that majority of the population of the employees of the fast food chains are students, we sought to determine a way to emphasize the importance of performing their work in the right way and avoiding the activities that will hinder their ability to be as productive both at work and in school. To determine the 3 most common faulty body mechanics that causes low back pain among the study population, questionnaires were distributed to Mc Donald's Service Crew in South Mall in Las Piñas City. A total of 30 subjects were gathered-16 male & 14 females respondents were found out to have work related back pain that they acquired through faulty body mechanics they perform as they go through their everyday routine as service crew members. The results/findings of the study shows that the service crew mainly assigned to the kitchen area with 46.67% were the ones with the highest prevalence of low back pain. Activities which are the most commonly utilized at work are, standing for long periods, with percentage of 73.33% followed by bending trunk without bending knees with 10% of the respondents and standing with a stoop posture and twisting upper body for long periods, with 33.33% of the respondents, (2) Carrying loads away from the body, with 16.67%, and (3) Bending trunk without bending knees with 13.33%. Aggravating or worsening factors to the discomfort they feel were found out and they are standing for long period as the most aggravating, with 53.33% followed by lifting heavy loads with 20% and frequently carrying loads from the body with 16.67% of the respondents respectively. It was also found out that only a small group of the subjects are sought medical and PT consultation and treatment at 13.33% and 16.67% respectively. Therefore we recommend that management will provide orientation on the first day of work regarding the proper body mechanics that are needed to prevent low back pain. Also distribution of pamphlets and posting of instructional materials such as posters in around the work to avoid activities that will hinder the workers' ability to be productive as possible.
