Abstract
The study conducted to determine the prevalence of LBP among nurses at DLSUMC as of February 2000. The subjects of this consisted of nurses at DLSUMC who experience LBP and have no history of LBP prior to their employment. A simple random sampling was used consisting of 52 nurses from different units without history of LBP and regardless of their age, sex, and duration of employment. Self-questionnaire were handled to the nurses and the data collected were analyzed descriptively presented using tables. Out of the 65 respondents , 52 nurses experienced LBP during their employment and were qualified in this study. Majority of the subjects belonged to the 26-30 age group where 13 were males and 39 were females. Most of the nurses (28%) who experienced LBP have been working for two years at DLSUMC, and sitting (50%) is the most frequently assumed position. Education regarding proper body mechanics, joint protection and energy conservation technique, conduction of seminar, and distribution of pamphlets are recommended to prevent occurrence of LBP.
