Abstract

Low back pain is one of the most common orthopedic problem encountered by physical therapists. The causes are manifold, however, the most common ate those work-related factors that causes tension on the structures of the spine. Office workers are prone to have low back pain since one of the contributing factors they are facing with is prolonged sitting. Other factors could be related to work ergonomics, type of work and working conditions. Patients education plays an important role in prevention and resolution of low back pain. Low back pain patients are taught to prevent the positions and the positions and other factors that could aggravate the pain. Therefore, the author conducted a study to determine whether educational materials such as pamphlet will be effective in increasing the knowledge of office workers regarding anatomy of the back and spine , risk factors and causes of low back pain, proper body mechanics and the exercises for the low back. The study was conducted among 50 office workers of DLSUMC, who must have answered both the pre and post questionnaires and have received the pamphlet. The effectiveness of the pamphlets was determined and qualified through comparing the results of the pre and post test. From the data gathered, it showed that there was an increase in knowledge regarding Low Back care among the office workers in DLSUMC after receiving a pamphlet.
