Abstract
This is a study on socio- demographic and clinic profile of the in -patients diagnosed with stroke in J.P. Rizal National Medical Research Center, Dasmariñas, Cavite from year 1998-2000. It aimed to provide information regarding the common socio- demographic and clinical profile of stroke patients, as well as prediction of number of stroke cases in the 3 years, which are essential to the people within the community through the given precautionary and preventive measures, proper education and awareness regarding stroke. This is a descriptive study which made use of gathered data from medical records of 638 stroke in - patients that were tabulated and analyzed using frequency distribution tables and estimation of population size in predicted number of stroke in the next 3 years. Results showed that greatest number of patients diagnosed with stroke belonged to age bracket 56-65 at 31.21%, females being more affected than males which amounted to 51.27% at thrombotic which accounted to 50. 92%, with hypertension as the leading risk factor having MCA greatly damaged as to area of brain affection. Most of the patients confined at the hospital stayed for more than 5 days, which amounted to 40. 17% of the total population. Overmore, a total number of 632.5 in- patients was predicted at year 2003. Certain preventive measures were highly suggested and recommenced by the researchers. These include: provision of upgraded hospital facilities to answer the needs of stroke patients, implementation of proper rehabilitation program among PT personnel as to proper treatment and management, and patients education as to extensive awareness program regarding avoidance of risk factors of stroke such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, obesity and smoking.
