Abstract

Unfortunately Physical Therapists are usually equated to masseurs by a great majority. The residents of Dasmariñas Cavite are fortunate enough to have De La Salle University - Health Sciences Campus for them to have an edge in acquiring knowledge regarding Physical Therapy. It was observed by the researchers that mothers are usually the ones who accompany patients in Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Centers which led them to think that probably mothers have a greater knowledge regarding Physical Therapy. There may probably be a great chance in using the mothers as the medium in disseminating pieces of information to every household because the researchers believe that mothers play a vital role in educating her family members. This study is about the knowledge of mothers in Barangay San Jose Dasmariñas, Cavite regarding Physical Therapy. Benefactors of this research study includes the future who would like to dwell on the similar topic, physical therapists, and DLSU-HSC/CPT administrators. The study made used of a descriptive design. It aimed to determine the socio-demographic profile of the respondents as to age, years of residency, number of children, educational attainment and religion. It also aimed to determine their knowledge regarding Physical Therapy according to different medical conditions attented by Physical Therapist, services offered, and delivery of Physical Therapy services. Another goal was to determine their source of information about Physical Therapy. An interview guide was used as a research instrument to conduct a study of 131 chosen respondents. Data were gathered and analyzed for conclusions. The study was limited on the knowledge of mothers from barangay San Jose Dasmariñas Cavite regarding Physical Therapy according to different medical conditions being attented by a Physical Therapist, services offered, and delivery of Physical Therapy Services. Results of the study revealed the following: a) majority of the respondents have 3 children, b) the usual age range was 30-39 years old, c) majority are high school graduates, d) mostly have an 11-15 years of residency, e) being a housewife is the predominant occupation, f) almost all are roman Catholics, g) low back pain was the most commonly known medical condition attended by a Physical Therapist, h) majority knew that massage is most common service offered i) hospitals was the main delivery of Physical Therapy services and j) media and publication played a great contribution.
