Abstract

This was a study on the Awareness of Selected High School Students of Dasmariñas, Cavite Regarding the Definition, Etiology and Treatment of Asthma. The objectives were to determine the level of awareness of selected high school students in Dasmariñas, Cavite regarding the definition, etiology and treatment of asthma; to determine the profile of the respondents as to the following: (a)age, (b) sex, (c) year level (d) school category, (e) orientation to asthma; to determine the level of awareness of the respondents regarding the definition of asthma; to determine the level of awareness of the respondents regarding the treatment of asthma. The researchers used a descriptive type of research. A survey was done using 13 closed-ended questions used as an index of awareness to measure the respondents' level of awareness regarding asthma from where it has 3 parts (definition, etiology and treatment). 4 major schools were randomly selected (Immaculate Conception Academy, Philippine Christian University, Paliparan Site and Service High School an Dasmariñas Relocation Center High School-Main) from where a total of 1000 sample population was gathered. It includes high school students from 1st year to 4th year, between the age of 12-25 years old, both male and female, who are representative of both private and public schools. The study was analyzed using the frequency distribution table. The results were the following: (1) majority of the respondents was between the age of 12 to 14 years old, female students, 2nd year High School, from private school category, and claims that they were oriented to asthma as to its definition, etiology and treatment. (2) There was a high awareness regarding the definition of asthma since the mean average is 2.56. (3) there was a high awareness regarding the etiology of asthma since the mean average is 2.32. (4) there was a high awarenees regarding the treatment of asthma since the mean average is 2.39 (5) High School Students of Dasmariñas, Cavite has a high level of awareness regarding the definition, etiology and treatment of Asthma since the total mean average of the 3 main focus of the study is 2.42. From the data gathered and analysis made, the researchers therefore conclude that high school students of Dasmariñas, Cavite have a high level of awareness regarding the definition, etiology and treatment of asthma.
