Abstract
The purpose of the study was to know that the prevalence of lower extremity ligamentous injury among basketball players competing in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) 2001.Basketball is a fast sport, played all around the world . Often times, mild or severe injuries occur during games because of the ambiguity of the physical forces affecting every move. This study focused on the prevalence of lower extremity ligamentous among basketball players competing in UAAP year 2001. The researchers objectives were to know the demographics of the basketball players as to age, years of playing , length of training sessions and number of practice sessions. Also , the frequency of incidence, most common ligamentous injury and percentage of players sustaining the said injuries. The method used to gather information was through questionnaires which were distributed among the basketball players of universities participating in the UAAP and were retrieved after 2 weeks. Data were then interpreted by the researchers through tables and graphs. After analyzing the data obtained, the researchers were able to conclude that :55.4% of the basketball players competing in UAAP year 2001 have ligamentous injuries . Most of these players belong to the 19-20 age bracket. They have been playing for their school tams for 2 years and have been by the respondents were ankle sprain, followed by ACL and MCL tears.
