Abstract

Neurodevelopmental treatment has been, and remains, one of the most common approaches used to manage children with movement disorders, in this case, children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP). The purpose of this study was to, out of the many neurodevelopmental techniques (NDT) used, determine what NDT is most commonly used in the treatment of spasticity in children with spastic CP. A survey was done among 31 licensed physical therapist within Metro Manila and Bulacan. The questionnaire also aimed to determine the respondents age sex, work experience, procedural interventions and perceptions regarding a specific NDT. After the study was implemented, it turned out that most of the respondents were female, between 23-25 years old, had 1-3 years work experience and were from Metro Manila. Most of the respondents claimed to handle 1-3 CP patients a day and did incorporate NDT in the treatment of spastic CP. most of the respondents claimed to use Roods technique in treating spastic CP. Roods, Bobaths and Brunnstomms technique were rated to be moderately effective. Most practitioners prefer to use Roods technique since they claimed it to be more efficient and easier to utilize than any other NDT.
