Abstract

In the advent of electrical stimulators being used for therapy of paralyzed muscles, numerous electrical stimulators appeared and are commercially available in the market. The advertisement seen on a myriad of viewing mediums utter benignant words that are strongly incongruent with the way they are actually used in the physical therapy dimension. The researchers of this study will attempt to confirm or disprove one of the ephemeral beliefs the public has been driven into. it has become a trite misconception that electrical stimulators could function better than crunches in upper abdominal strengthening. The researchers decided to take this controversial topic because of their concern to give some clarifications regarding that matter. This study utilized an experimental research design. It compared the effectiveness of Abdominal Crunches to Ab Gymnic in terms of strengthening the abdominals. The study aims to realize if abdominal crunching is a more effective method to strengthen the Abdominals than Ab Gymnic Stimulators. Thirty-three individuals qualified for the research. However thirty respondents were only included using fishbowl technique. The implementation took place in the Meadowood basketball court and near one of the researcher's residence. Respondents who were given the traditional abdominal crunches were categorized as the control group, while those given intervention of Ab Gymnic Stimulator were categorized as the experimental group. Data were tabulated using frequency distribution tables and were analyzed using tests for central tendencies. To test for the effectiveness of both modalities, data for the muscle strength and comparison were also tabulated and inferential statistics was utilized to test for the hypothesis or how significant the difference of the increase in strength of the abdominals of both the control group and the experimental group were. Result of the study revealed that there is a significant difference between the strength increasing capabilities of both modalities, with. abdominal crunching having a more significantly better outcome. The researchers conclude that abdominal crunching is more effective in strengthening the abdominal muscles than the Ab Gymnic stimulators as shown by the t-test(t(28)= 3.4, p< 0.05).
