Abstract
The objective of the study was to determine the most common physical therapy related complaints of pregnant women who consulted at De La Salle- University Medical Center Out-Patients Department Obstetic-Gynecology section from October to December 2005. A descriptive study was done using non probability convenience sampling in selecting patients. A total of 50 patients were included in the study. The patients demographic profiles as well as the patients complaints were gathered. The patients were categorized as to musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary and excretory conditions. The researchers rely on patients subjective complaints followed by assessment of pertinent positive and negative findings. Results of the study showed that most pregnant women under 21-30 age classification (56%), white collar job classification (36%), college level of educational attainment (48%) and 2nd semester stage of pregnancy (44%) has higher frequency of complains in terms of musculoskeletal complaints are low back pain and leg cramps whereas, shortness of breath (SOB) for cardiopulmonary and urinary incontinence for excretory complains. The study concluded that localized back pain is the most common Physical complain with a percentage score of 82 percent. Therefore, the proponents of this research recommend patient education regarding obstetric rehabilitation, its benefits and its importance to avoid misconception regarding physical therapy related complaints brought about by pregnancy. Further study should be conducted using also a non-probability convenience sampling in different hospitals specialized on OBGYNE with greater number of samples.
