Abstract

This is a cross-sectional study, which aims to determine if there is an association between biomechanical factors & occupational factors with musculoskeletal impairments among tricycle driver in Tierra Nevada Subdivision in General Trias and Golden City Subdivision in Imus Cavite. A total of fifty subjects who qualified the criteria were included in the study. They were taken from each Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) and approximately, they represent 39 percent of the total population per TODA (129 in Tierra Nevada and 121 in Golden City subdivisions). Results of the study showed that in terms of occupational factors, there is an association between frequency of number of trips per day and tenderness on the hand (x2=83.22); there is an association between distance traveled and tenderness on the hand (x2=93.54) with critical value of 5.99 and level of significance of 0.05. In terms of biomechanical factors, there is an association between multiple repetitive movement of the wrist into flexion and entension and pain on the association between posture of forearm and weakness of the muscles of the wrist (X2=6.07 > CV=5.99) and also with tenderness of the wrist(X2=21.17) with critical value of 5.99 and level of significance of 0.05. In conclusion, this study showed that there is an association between certain biomechanics and occupational factors and musculoskeletal impairments among 100 tricycle drivers in Golden City Subdivision Imus, Cavite and Tierra Neveda Subdivision General Trias. This include the frequency of trips and tenderness on the hand and distance traveled with tenderness on wrist, posture of forearm with weakness of muscles acting on the wrist with critical value of 5.99 and level of significance of 0.05.
