Abstract

This is a descriptive study that determined the prevalence o9f musculoskeletal symptoms among registered amateur golfers in Villamor Golf Club and Driving Range in Paranaque City. A total of 141 amateur golfers were included in the study. The respondents that experiences pain, the age group with the highest frequency belongs to the 49-57 age group with 21.99% followed by the age group of 58_66 years old with 19.86% and the age group with the least symptoms belong to 13-21 age groups with 2.86%. According to duration of playing, those who are playing for 5-6 hours per day got the highest percentage of pain complaint with 40.43% followed by those who are playing for 3-4 hours per day with 33.33% and the least group that experiences pain belongs to the 1-2 per day with 10.26%. On the other hand, according to frequency of playing per week, those who are playing once a week with 39.72% subsequently, and those who are playing 2 times a week got the 2nd highest frequency of pain with 20.57%. Lastly, according to the years of playing, those who played for 8-15 belong to th 32-39 years of playing with 2.84%. The result of this study showed that the highest and most commonly reported musculoskeletal symptom in Villamor Golf Club and Driving Range is lower back pain with a total percentage of 58.16% from the 141 out of 150 respondents followed by the second highest musculoskeletal complain which is the shoulder with a percentage of 41.13%.Futhermore, this research came up with top three musculoskeletal symptoms specially pain being the most common, stiffness and weakness. The total number of respondents that experience pain is 82.98% regardless of their age groups and specific body parts followed by weakness with 4.96% and lastly, stiffness with only 2.13%. In conclusion, this research's result came up with pain, lower back pain to be specific, as the most common musculoskeletal symptom experienced by a golfer in the population of Villamor Golf Club and driving Range. Almost all of the respondents experience pain. Not considering the respondent's age, frequency of playing per day, duration of playing per hours, attire and the length of his/ her playing years. Moreover, the researchers conclude that 49-57 years-old golfers are more prone to probable musculoskeletal symptoms. And the other symptoms such as stiffness and weakness are least experienced by the respondents.
