Abstract
Residental housekeeper are persons employed to do household chores which include washing dishes, laundry work, cleaning, and childcare. This type of livehood which is noticeably repetitive and laborious in nature requires certain physical qualities and capacities, skills and kowledge to perform the tasks with very minimum difficulty and lesser risk of injuries. Although those measures should be regarded, those are overlooked when hiring residental housekeepers here in our country. Knowledge on proper body mechanics (PBM) is an important information that should be shared to residential housekeepers to make efficient, productive and protected in their workplace. PBM describes the correct way a person moves and act in relation to his. Her daily activities while the body is in different positions like carrying, lifting, sitting, standing, and blending. The objective of the study was to determine the Knowledge, Attitude and Practices of Residential Housekeepers in Angela. Village, Las Piñas city regarding Proper Body Mechanics. The researchers used self-made questionnaires as the instrument tool to gather the necessary information to complete the study. The tool was divided into four parts. Part 1 was composed of questions regarding the socio-demographic profile of each respondent (age, type of work, number of hours working and number of years working as housekeeper). Part 2 consisted of 10 questions that measured the knowledge of the respondents regarding proper body mechanics principles while part 3 of the questionnaire included 10 questions that measures the participants attitude toward proper body mechanics by aggreing or dis agreeing to given principles of proper body mechanics. and lastly, the fourth part of the tool consists of 10 scenarios of proper body mechanics as a lifting, carrying and reaching were given and respondents were asked how often each respondetn perform each situations. This study was conducted to a population consisted of 70 housekeepers in Angela Village, Las Piñas City who qualified in the inclusion citeria from the given preset of 100 questionnaires. inclusion criteria included: (1) those who were willing in the study, (2) age ranges from 16-50 years old, (3) have work for at least 6-8 hours a day, and (4) have a minimum of 3 months working experience. Each of the qualified respondetns was given the research questionnaire to be answered and was tallied for data analysis. In general, the respondents showed fair knowledge on proper body mechanics and has weighted mean of 1.69 as to mechanics of lifting, carrying and reaching objects. The extent of attitude on proper body mechanics regarding proper postures, lifting, reaching and carrying an object has presented a weighted mean of 1.12 and resulted to fair grade while the practices of residential housekeepers regarding proper body mechanics as to proper posture when doing household chores, lifting and reaching an object revealed poor grade with a general weighted mean of 1.07.
