Abstract
This descriptive study that aimed to level of awareness of 50 jeepney drivers of Dasmariñas Pala-Pala Association regarding ergonomics in their workplace specifically its definition, benefits and principles. In addition, the socio-demographic profile and their occupational profile were also described. The researchers utilized a self-made questionnaire in determining the level of knowledge of the respondents who were chosen based on the probability purposive sampling. The level of awareness was classified as very high, high, average, low and very low based on the computed mean scores. The socio-demographic profile shows that out of 50 respondents, 28% belongs to the age group 39-43 years old, with the mean age of 33 and majority (38%) finished secondary level of education. The occupational profile shows that 58% of the drivers were working 11-15 hours per day and 52% have working for about 1-10 years now. Results of the study showed that the jeepney driver's level of awareness regarding definition of ergonomics (2.3) and benefits of ergonomics (2.66) is low. furthermore, results also showed that the respondents have high level of awareness in terms of principles of ergonomics (4.18). In addition, no significant difference in the level of knowledge between drivers with and without musculoskeletal pain was noted based on the computed T-value. In conclusion, based on the computed mean score of 3.04, the jeepney drivers of Dasmariñas Pala-Pala Operators and Drivers Association have an average level of awareness regarding ergonomics in their workplace.
