Abstract

This is a descriptive which aimed to determined the health status profile of patients with chronic obstructive disease (COPD) who consulted at the Pulmonary Unit of De La Salle University Medical Center and Catalan Medical Centers as to the following eight domains: physical functioning, role physical, bodily pain, general health, vitality, social functioning, role emotional and mental health. A total of 40 COPD patients from De La Salle University Medical Center and Catalan Medical Center comprised the study. Their health status profile was determined using the Health Profile, Short Form measure (SF-36) which is intended to capture quality of life of an individual patient. The respondents were chosen using convenience sampling. Results of the study showed that the respondents have a good state of health as to mental and social functioning. They have a fair state of health as to physical functioning, bodily pain, role physical, role emotional, vitality and general health. In conclusion, the researchers found out that the COPD patients in De La Salle University Medical Center and Catalan Medical Center has fair sate of health based on the computed mean score of 54.61, this means that the patients had limitations on their activities some of the time due to their medical condition.
