Abstract

This is a descriptive study that determines the level of interaction between primary caregivers and preschoolers with spastic palsy in selected rehabilitation centers specifically on the following areas: learning stimulation, language stimulation, physical environment, warmth and affection, academic stimulation, modelling, variety in experience and acceptance. Home Observation for measurement of the Environment (HOME) Inventory was the research instrument used in determining the level of interaction between the caregiver and the spastic cerebral palsy. The researchers went to the houses of 30 respondents and observe the rooms and how the caregiver and child act on their own environment. Certain items were search regarding the inventory used and each household were scored. The level of interaction between primary caregivers and preschoolers with spastic CP was determined using these scales: low level of interaction which is 0 to 54% (0-29 plus answers), middle level of interaction which is 55 to 83% (30-45 plus answers) and high level of interaction which is 84 to 100% (46-55 plus answers). Results of the study showed that based on the computed mean scores, the primary caregivers and the preschoolers with spastic cerebral palsy have high level of interaction which is 55 to 83% (30-45 plus answers) and high level of interaction which is 54 to 100% (46-55 plus answers). Results of the study showed that based on the computed mean scores, the primary caregivers and the preschoolers with spastic cerebral palsy have a high level of interaction as to language stimulation and modelling, a middle level of interaction as to language stimulation and modelling, a middle level of interaction as to language of interaction as to learning stimulation, physical environment, warmth and affection, academic stimulation and variety of experience. They have a low level of interaction in terms of acceptance. In conclusion, the primary caregivers and preschoolers with spastic cerebral palsy in selected rehabilitation centers have a middle level of interaction based on the computed mean score of 36.55. This means that there are adequate means of interaction between the caregiver and the child with spastic cerebral palsy.
