Abstract

This is a descriptive study that determined the level of knowledge of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) regarding the goals and benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and its components. a total of 62 respondents from De La Salle University Medical Center and Jose P. Rizal Medical Center were included in the study. Most of the respondents (60%) are males and comes from the age group of 41-50 having a percentage of 37%. Sixty one percent are professionals and 92% of the respondents are not undergoing Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Ninety five percent of the respondents know that Pulmonary Rehabilitation improves our breathing and teaches how to deal with situations when experiencing shortness of breath, while ninety two percent know that it help in eliminating cough and clearing airways, and eighty nine percent know that it helps to decrease accumulation of secretions and development of other complications. Ninety seven percent of the respondents are highly knowledgeable regarding the goals and benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation. All of the respondents know that patient education is included in Pulmonary Rehabilitation, eighty four percent know that postural drainage is also a component of Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and sixty percent know that deep and effective coughing exercise is part of Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Ninety four percent of the respondents are highly knowledgeable regarding the components of Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Over-all, 92% of the respondents are highly knowledgeable regarding the goals and benefits of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and its components. Over-all, 92% of the respondents is 14.78 that is considered to be high. In conclusion, the study found out that most of the respondents are highly knowledgeable about Pulmonary Rehabilitation specifically on the goals and benefits and the components of Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
