Abstract

This descriptive study was conducted to determine the difficulties encountered by arthritic patients in performance activities of daily in selected rehabilitation centers in Cavite, namely: De La Salle University Medical Center Department of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine, gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital Department of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine and lastly Jose P. Rizal Hospital and Research Center Department of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine. A total 27 respondents were included in the study. The study showed that majority of them has an age between 41-80 y/o (66.66%), female (62.97%) and right handed (96.29%) all of them has occupation. The result of the study shows that females are more affected with OA of the knees and it study shows that females are more affected with OA of the knees and it is prevalent to those 41 years old and above. Furthermore, majority of the respondents have difficulty in reach and grip (70.37%), followed arising from bed (67%), arising from chair (62.96%), walking (59.26%), self care (33.33%), hygiene care (37%), performing work (18.51%), transfers riding and getting of a vehicle (18.515) and lastly eating (18.51%). In conclusion the most common ADL difficulty encountered by patients with osteoarthritis is in the hand function particularly reach and grip. The researchers recommended that the used of pamphlets, videos and documents about the ADL difficulties encountered by the patients with osteoarthritis will be beneficial to them so that they could gain knowledge about it. Also to teach them specific and alternative work to maintain their joint mobility so that they could perform the said activities.
