Abstract

The objective of the study is to determine the perceived strengths and weaknesses of PT Proper students on the educational environment of DLSHSI College of Physical Therapy. It is a quantitative descriptive type of research. The setting of the study is within the De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Physical Therapy. The participants/respondents include fourth and fifth (Batches 2010 and 2009, respectively) year students enrolled in school year 2008-2009 in De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Physical Therapy with a total population of 138 students. The Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure (DREEM) questionnaire, a validated and useful tool containing 50 items related to the learning environment, was administered to the 4th and 5th year PT proper students. The DREEM was the main outcome measure that used for this study. Given the results of the collegeś total DREEM score, the DLSHSI College of Physical Therapyś learning environment is interpreted as More Positive than Negative. Upon specifically analyzing each item in the DREEM questionnaire, it was found that majority of the perceptions of the students present a trend of neutrality. As a result, most of the items were not considered as strength or weakness. There is only one item identified as perceived strength. On the other hand, there are 6 items, which are perceived as weaknesses of the Colleges learning environment. Basing on the results of the study, it is concluded that the DLSHSI College of Physical Therapy's learning environment is satisfactory but can be further enhanced. It can also be concluded that the DREEM Inventory is effective in identifying the areas of concerns within the learning environment, and may be used efficiently by the College as a guide or basis in planning and solving these problems respectively.
