Abstract
A study was conducted among Lasallian Physical Therapy interns to determine their level of knowledge in Cerebral Palsy rehabilitation. The study primarily aimed to provide evidence-based information to the College of Physical Therapy at De La Salle Health Sciences Institute on the extent of knowledge of their intern students in CP rehabilitation which they can use to further enhance the learning and capabilities of their PT students. Descriptive research design was employed in this study. A total of 70 interns participated in this study selected through non-probability purposive sampling. An examination instrument was prepared by the researchers to gather information from the participants. It consisted of 49 multiple choice items covering three areas such as: basic medical knowledge, basic clinical knowledge and PT rehabilitation knowledge.Descriptive statistical tools such as frequency counts mean and percentages were used in presenting the data gathered. Results of the study showed that in terms of basic medical knowledge, the overall mean of less than 75 indicated that participants recorded a failing grade in basic medical background. With regards to basic clinical knowledge, the overall mean rating of less than 75 showed that participants failed in this area. In the area of PT rehabilitation knowledge, the overall mean of less than 75 indicated that participants had a failing mark in PT rehabilitation. Overall, finding revealed that Lasallian Physical Therapy interns failed to meet the level of knowledge needed for cerebral palsy rehabilitation as evidenced by the overall mean rating of 68.61%. It is recommended that a comprehensive evaluation on the knowledge learned in the formal classroom environment particularly in the area of CP rehabilitation should be regularly conducted. the process of evaluating students' knowledge in CP rehabilitation program need to be as standardized as possible. This step may have a profound and enduring impact on the development of a PT student's professional identity.
