Abstract

This is a descriptive study that determines the level of exercise performance among late adults participating in an exercise program at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) grounds based on the exercise parameters namely the frequency, intensity and duration of exercise. A non-probability purposive sampling design was utilized in selecting the 55 late adults who participated in the study. They were given survey questionnaire and record sheet to gather data on age, gender, and whether the participants use any medication and history of health problems. The record sheet was filled up by the researchers according to the results taken on the participant's pre and post vital signs measurement, frequency, duration and the intensity using the rate of perceived exertion (RPE).Majority of participants who exercise at PICC grounds are male whose age ranged from 45-60 yrs. of age. Most of them exercise three times(3x)-to five times(5x) a week, for 20-30 minutes. As to the intensity of exercise, most of the participants gave an RPE rating of 5 RPE which means a feeling of somewhat hard. Majority of late adults who exercise in PICC grounds were not able to achieve the optimal level of exercise performance as to exercise parameters such as frequency, Duration and intensity. Results of the study also showed that more than half (54.55%) of the late adults were had a fair level of exercise performance, among late adults participating in an exercise program at the PICC is fair. The researchers then recommend that a follow up study on the factors affecting the level of exercise performance of the participants namely their lifestyle, eating habits, and vices be conducted. Likewise, a health education program is also recommended.
