Abstract

The study aims to describe the biopsychosocial factors in coping and succumbing among post-stroke patients in nine DLS-HSSI affiliated centers. The study utilized a descriptive type of research design utilizing centers. The study utilized a descriptive type of research design utilizing an interview questionnaire that was developed from Wright's idea. To measure appropriateness of the tool, a pilot study in 10 post-stroke patients in Paliparan I, Dasmariñas Cavite was done. With the inclusion and exclusion criteria, patients were screened and 35 post-stroke participated in nine DLS-HSI affiliated centers the study Data were collected, tallied and analyzed accordingly. The result of the data revealed that majority of the post-stroke patients was female, aging from 60 years old and above. Most of them were active in spiritual activities and receives support from their own family. Occupational and ADL disability dominated the study and only very little percentage struggles from interrelation disability. However, despite of their disabilities, majority of the patients were coping. It was shown in the result that biopsychosocial factors such as age genders, spiritual belief, and social support plays a role in coping and succumbing among post-stroke patients in all DLS-HISI affiliated centers.
