Abstract

This is a descriptive study aimed to determine the awareness and attitude of Physical Therapist in tertiary hospital in Cavite on mental practice for stroke rehabilitation. The researchers made a questionnaire written in English. The tool was divided into two parts. The first part included the demographic profile of the respondents, specifically age and gender, and the professional profile particularly the years of practice and patient load per day. The second part was subdvided into two: this include the Awareness of the physical therapist on mental practice for stroke rehabilitation as to effects and method of aaplication. Attitude was measured using a 5-point likert scale that ranges from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagaree". Awareness was measured as "very great extent" to "very limited extent". The results showed that most of the respondents are aware to a great extent specifically on defination, theories, and principles, and uses but are aware to a moderate extent as to the limitations of mental practice. As to attitude of the respondents towards MP for stroke rehabilitation, they strongly agree with its effects and methods of application. The researchers recommend that use mental practice as an adjunct to physical therapy for stroke rehabilitation. In addition, an experiment study about effectiveness of mental practice for patients with stroke undergoing physical therapy rehabilitation must be conducted in the future.
