Abstract
This is a descriptive study that determines the functional status of the patients with complex Regional Pain syndrome in selected centers in Cavite and Batangas, specifically at St. Paul, St. Dominic Medical Center, Mary Mediatrix Medical Center and Medix Medical Center as to self-care and mobility status. Sepcifically, their socio-demographic and clinical profiles were determined. Functional status was determined using Barthel Index, performance-based evaluation regarding the patient's functional status in self-care and mobility. Results showed that Complex Regional Pain Syndrome is common at the age bracket of 52-67 and in female population. Neurological conditions were the common cause and distal extremities like the wrist and hand, ankle and foot was the common site of affectation. As to self-care activities, majority (16 out of 20) can perform LE dressing with help. Thirteen (13) out of 20 patients can independently control urination and bowel movement. As to mobility, most (12 out of 20) patients can get in and out of the shower and walk 50 yards with help while 11 out of 20 can get in and out of the chair and toilet as well as walking up and down 1 plight of stairs can do the task with the help from others. In conclusion, more than half (11 out of 20) of the patients with Complex Regional Complex Syndrome (CRPS) at selected rehabilitation centers in Cavite and Batangas require minimal assist in performing their Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Specifically, majority (13 out of 20 patients) of them requires moderate assist in performing self-care activities and half (10 out of 20) requires moderate assist as to mobility. Overall, CRPS patients needed minimal assists in performing the self care and mobility activities. The researchers then recommend that a thogh patient education program focusing on ADL training be done among patients with CRPS.
