Abstract
This is a descriptive study that determines the Career Expectations of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute, College of Physical Therapy Batch 2010-2012. Specifically, the career expectations of the students were ranked and compared as to batch and gender. A total of 228 students who were selected using convenience sampling were included in the study. They were given questionnaire adapted from a study of Johnson regarding the Factors influencing professional MPT and DPT student's program selection, published in Journal of Physical Therapy Education in 2004. Most of the respondents are females, with age ranging from 19 to 20 years and came from Batch 2012. Results of the study showed that most students expected in a great extent to be a PT clinician focusing on sports rehabilitation, Private PT practicing internationally and PT specializations on sports medicine after graduation. In comparing career expectation as to batch, to be a PT clinician is expected in a great extent for batches 2010 and 2011 whereas, it is expected in a moderate extent for Batch 2012. As to gender, females expect to be a PT administrator in moderate extent while males expect it in great extent. As to ranking per batch, PT clinician was the most preferred expected career for batch 2010 and 2011. while Private PT was the top choice for batch 2012 in addition, male respondents favor PT clinician while females favor Private PT. In conclusion, majority of the respondents expects to a great extent to be a PT clinician, a Private PT and to engage in PT Specializations and the highest ranking career expected is PT clinician. this may be used by the college as a guide or basis in planning or conducting profiling of the students after graduation. The researchers then recommend that clinically enhancing skills must be conducted since most PT students expect to have a career as PT clinician after their graduation.
