Abstract

A descriptive type of research was used to obtain the objective of gathering information about the perception of the Physical therapists. The research was set in 10 rehabilitation centers and hospitals in Cavite, namely: De La Salle University Medical Center, Cavite Diagnostic Stroke Care Center Inc, ACC Physical Therapy Clinic - a Physical therapy clinic located in different parts of Cavite namely: Noveleta, Kawit, Imus and Cavite City, Our Lady of Pillar Medical Center, Southeast Asian Medical Center, Medical Center Imus, and Carmona Hospital and Medical Center. The respondents of this study were taken using the non-probability purposive sampling design with inclusion as follows: (1) At least a graduate of BS Physical Therapy; (2) Registered Physical Therapist in the Philippines working in rehabilitation centers and hospitals in Cavite, and; (3) Physical Therapists with experience of using Shockwave Therapy in treating more than 3 different musculoskeletal conditions. The researchers distributed a validated survey questionnaire with a 5-point Likert Scale. All obtained information were tallied, tabulated, analyzed and subjected to statistical treatment. Frequency distribution, measure of central tendency, and cross-tabulation was used for the statistical treatment. Overall, the result of the study was “fair” as to the perception of Physical Therapists on the clinical utilization of Shockwave therapy on musculoskeletal conditions. In conclusion, the perception of the Physical therapists on the clinical utilization of Shockwave therapy were neither good nor poor. Most of the respondents agreed on the perception as to the usage, advantages, disadvantages and cost of ESWT but they still need to obtain a “good” perception as to the clinical utilization of Shockwave Therapy. Enhancing the perception as to the utilization of modalities can further improve their skills in providing the optimal care and intervention.
