Abstract

The researchers utilized a prospective cohort design. In this study, 21 male students of DLSMHSI-CRS who are first time gym goers were recruited to participate in the study. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: experimental group who received Kinesiotape with menthol, and the control group who received conventional tape prior to their exercise. Inhibition technique was used on the biceps brachii with 15-25% tension using Y-Strip. Both groups performed biceps curl exercise using 65% of their 1 RM, 10 repetitions, and 2 sets, with 1 minute rest in between sets. They were assessed by taking their pain scale (using VAS), muscle strength (using Break Test) and Range of Motion (using Goniometer as an instrument). Two out ten participants in the menthol group developed DOMS while four out of eleven participants in the non-menthol group developed DOMS. The risk ratio resulted to 0.56 which indicates a preventive effect. The study concludes that Kinesio tape with menthol has a preventive effect on DOMS.
