Abstract

The researchers utilized one group pre-test and post-test research design, which was a type of quasi experimental research, to fulfill the objective of the study. The respondents of this study consisted a total of one hundred thirty eight (138) students from Batch 2020 Physical Therapy students of De La Salle Health Sciences Institute - College of Rehabilitation Sciences for the school year 2017-2018. The respondents took and answered a twenty-three (23) item questionnaire regarding their motivation to learn PT Application subjects, specifically PT Examination and Evaluation and Documentation (PT Eval) and Introduction to Patient Care and Emergency Procedures in PT (ITPC). After twenty-two (22) days of being exposed to active learning strategies, the students took the post-test of the same questionnaire. However, only one hundred sixteen (116) students were able to comply on both pre-test and post-test questionnaires given by the researchers due to absence of other respondents during the implementation of pre-test and post-test. Results showed that there is no sufficient evidence to say that active learning has an effect on student motivation as to the constructs of motivation which includes attainment value, cost, identification with academics, self-efficacy, and instrumentality towards self-directed learning among Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy Batch 2020 students. However, as to interest, results showed that active learning has an effect on student motivation towards self-directed learning. Overall, the difference between pre-test and post-test scores revealed that there is no sufficient evidence to say that active learning has an effect on student motivation towards self-directed learning among Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy Batch 2020 students.
