Abstract
The research design used is a correlational method. The study was held at the 6th floor of Wang Building in DLSMHSI. A total number of 112 4th year students were used in the study who completed the given inclusion criteria. The sutyd used purposive sampling technique. The General Weighted Average was used to determine the academic performance of the students. The Genos EI Full Inventory was used to measure the emotional intelligence of the students. The results show that majority of the respondents are female, are dormers, have at least 1 sibling, and have parents who are married, the respondents also have high levels of ESA and average levels of EEX, EAO, ER, ESM, EMO and ESC, the respondents also perform at a satisfactory level. The results also show that there is no sufficient data to determine if a relationship exists between emotional intelligence and academic performance because the pValues of the overall EI (P=0.249) and domains of ESA (P=0.96) EEX (P=0.776), EAO (P=0.552), ER (P=0.972), ESM (0.901), EMO (P=0.786), ESC (P=0.235) are greater than 0.05 level of significance. The results of emotional intelligence of the respondents based on the demographic profile show that the majority have an average level of EI, majorly comprised of females, those whose parents are married, have one sibling, and are dormers. The results of academic performance of the respondents based on the demographic profile shows that the majority perform at a satisfactory level, majorly comprised of females, those whose parents are married, have one sibling, and are dormers. Based on the results of the study, there is no sufficient evidence to conclude that there is a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance of physical therapy students.
