Abstract
This study used a self-administered survey instrument to conduct cross-sectional quantitative descriptive research in ten (10) different barangays of Dasmarinas City, Cavite, Philippines, with the goal of describing the potential unintentional misuse of paracetamol-containing products and defining the extent of the respondents’ level of knowledge, attitude, and practices. The study population was conducted using a convenience sampling method wherein the inclusion criteria involved adult participants aged 18 years old and above and currently living in Dasmarinas City, Cavite, Philippines. There were 20 randomly selected participants in each of 10 barangays. A non-resident of Dasmarinas, Cavite., Philippines, and people with poor cognition and mental disability were excluded from the study. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were used such as percentage, frequency, Chi-square, Spearman's Correlation, Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney test. The findings revealed that there is no significant relationship between demographic characteristics for age (18-33; 34-49; and 50-65 years old) and gender (both males and females) in the respondents' level of knowledge (identification of paracetamol in different brand names, uses, side effects, and toxicity of paracetamol); level of attitude (sources of advice, purchasing, and self-medication of paracetamol); and level of practices (both males and females) (reasons for taking Paracetamol, daily dose and dosing schedule for Paracetamol use) by the respondents. However, there is a weak association between educational achievement and knowledge, attitude, and practices concerning paracetamol among high school graduates and college undergraduates, despite their differing educational standing.
