Abstract

The objectives of the study is to identify the occupational needs of BS Occupational Therapy Batch 2024 students in DLSMHSI. This study employed descriptive qualitative research design to meet the specific objectives. Data was gathered through inviting 10 participants from BSOT Batch 2024 regular students in an online interview guided by a semi-structured interview questionnaire. The specific objectives of the interview was to describe the demographics of the participants, to describe the influences on their occupational needs, and to describe the themes related to their occupational needs. Upon analyzing the narratives of the participants, three main themes were identified: Leisure deemed as an occupational need, (2) Health management deemed as an occupational need, and (3) Education deemed as a priority.

In conclusion, Leisure and Health management are identified as the students' occupational needs whereas prioritizing education influences the occupational functioning of the students. The participants emphasized that non-engagement in leisure and health management is due to the demands and pertinence of education. Non-engagement in their occupational needs results in negative ePects such as low life satisfaction, inability to fully engage with academic performance, decreased motivation, decreased interaction with others, and emotional stress.
