Abstract

This study aims to determine the overall level of leisure participation of older adults in Dasmariñas Cavite during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study made use of a descriptive quantitative research approach, specifically a cross-sectional design and utilized an online survey for data collection to avoid physical contact with the respondents and considering the pandemic. A total of 144 respondents were gathered through convenient sampling by posting via various social media platforms and all answered using Google Form questionnaire. Some older adults were assisted by their relatives in answering the questionnaire. The overall leisure participation of older adults resulted in a verbal interpretation of “high” for both passive and active leisure. In conclusion, the older adults of Dasmariñas City Cavite were able to participate in leisure activities during the COVID-19 Pandemic. By means of barriers, personal barriers that included: age, lack skills, knowledge, interest, motivation, current health condition, and insufficient sleep resulted to a verbal interpretation of “average”. Age, in particular, was the only personal factor that garnered a high interpretation. The majority of older adults 60 years old and above find physical environment as barrier specifically safety within the environment, implemented government restrictions, and climate or weather that resulted in a high interpretation. Lastly, social environment factors particularly, lack of companion/s and lack of peer support were found to be pertinent barriers with an average interpretation.
