Abstract

This study aimed to explore the perceptions of the elderly with the use of telehealth in occupational therapy. It also aimed to explore the positive and negative insights of the elderly, including their justifications. This qualitative study used a descriptive exploratory design and a purposive sampling, where the researchers screened and sought five participants who were past and future recipients of occupational therapy services from 2020 to 2023 that fit the inclusion criteria of the study. The data gathering was held through interviews via online platforms such as Zoom and Google Meet. The data from the interviews were coded and analyzed using a thematic analysis method from Braun and Clarke's six-step framework. Results showed that the elderly in Cavite have both positive and negative perceptions regarding the use of telehealth in occupational therapy. The positive perceptions that emerged from the study include the themes of Comfortable setting and Convenience in Execution. Meanwhile, themes such as Lack of Personal Interaction, Complex Instructions, and Technological Issues corresponded to the negative perceptions of the elderly. Hence, the study revealed that there were more negative than positive perceptions on telehealth use in occupational therapy.
