Abstract

Stress and Occupational Balance can be hard to manage, especially when faced with multiple challenges. Students during their academe, undergoing academic stress, personal factors and such, are the ones mostly affected by said challenges. The main purpose of the study is to determine the association between occupational balance and perceived stress of Occupational Therapy students in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute A.Y 2022-2023. To determine the objectives, the researchers utilized a correlational quantitative design to determine the association between the two independent variables. The researchers also used two adapted instrument tools, the Occupational Balance Questionnaire (OB-Quest) and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale 21 (DASS-21), which detailed the level of occupational balance and perceived stress of Occupational Therapy students. In order to collect the data, the researchers used Google Forms disseminated by the CRS helpdesk. Whereas, the sample used are the regular 1st to 4th year Occupational Therapy students in De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute A.Y 2022-2023. The questionnaire consists of 7 items to evaluate the respondents' occupational balance in relation to their current situation and daily life and 6 items to measure the respondents' stress component which are both Likert scale. The results showed that there was a significant association between perceived stress and occupational balance. The Goodman and Kruskal Gamma Coefficient depicted that occupational balance rises when stress levels fall, with most respondents having low levels of occupational balance. Stress levels were moderate and positively correlated with occupational balance. With this, the researchers reject the null hypothesis as there is an association between occupational balance and perceived stress in Occupational Therapy students of De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute A.Y 2022-2023.
