Abstract
This study investigated the effects of the instructional video intervention on the level of awareness and interest of Grade 11 STEM students from a private high school in Cavite in
nuclear medicine technology (NMT) as a course and specialty. This study utilized a non- equivalent quasi-experimental design. A self-made questionnaire was used to obtain
pretest/posttest data from the treatment and comparison groups. Data were treated using frequency distribution, mean, standard deviation, paired and independent t-test, Cohen’s d, McNemar’s test, two-proportion z-test. The findings show that most of the participants are female. Most of the participants, in pretest and posttest of both groups, are aware of NMT as a paramedical course and specialty. Both groups were not interested in NMT during both pretest and posttest except for a slight change posttest in the treatment group with even proportion. The level of awareness and interest of the participants in NMT as a paramedical course and specialty (pretest) do not significantly differ according to sex. There is a significant improvement in the level of awareness on NMT as a paramedical course and specialty in both treatment and comparison groups in the pretest and posttest. However, the interest in NMT is the same for both groups regardless of the instructional video intervention. The treatment group has a significantly higher level of awareness on NMT as a paramedical course (posttest) compared to the comparison group. On the other hand, the treatment and comparison groups have the same level of awareness on NMT as a specialty and interest in NMT (posttest). Instructional video is an effective intervention to improve the level of awareness on NMT as a paramedical course and specialty but not their interest in it.
