Abstract
The study utilized non-experimental descriptive method and was conducted in three selected barangays in Silang, Cavite namely Pulong Bunga, Paligawan and Puting Kahoy. The total number of respondents was 100 (both males and females) between the ages of 18 to 65, residing in Silang, Cavite for at least five years, used onion in their home and were willing to participate in the study regarding the nutritional and medicinal values of onion. Respondents of the study were chosen using purposive sampling. A self-made tool was utilized and data was analysed using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and f-test or Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The study concluded that (1) majority of the respondents were in the age group of 18-40 years old, female, belong to Tagalog ethnic group, Catholic, high school graduate, and with monthly income of Php5,001-10,000; (2) the respondents have moderate level of awareness on the nutritional values of onion and have low level of awareness on the medicinal values of onion; (3) there was no significant difference in level of awareness of the respondents on the nutritional and medicinal values of onion when they were grouped according to age, gender, ethnicity, religion status, and monthly family income.
