Abstract

The study utilized the non-experimental descriptive type of research. The respondents of the study were consisted of second year, third year and fourth ear BSN students of De La Salle University – Health Sciences Campus Dasmarinas, Cavite, which comprised of 92 bona fide students. The data were gathered through a questionnaire developed by the researchers. The statistical treatment used in the study were mean, t-test of independent means, f-test, and pearson r. 1) The respondents’ profile showed that of the 90 adolescence, 70% were female, 85.6% were Catholic, 51.1% had family income of P30,000 and above; 78.9% had no family history of cancer; and 56.7% had no history of smoking; 2) The overall mean level of 4.24, on the average, reveals that the respondents had an excellent level of knowledge regarding smoking cessation as the primary prevention of lung cancer; 3) The overall mean level of 2.49, on the average, reveals that the adolescents had a fair level of attitude regarding smoking cessation as the primary prevention of lung cancer; 4) The mean levels of knowledge of adolescents regarding smoking cessation as the primary prevention of lung cancer were basically the same regardless of gender, religion, family income, family history of cancer, and history of smoking; 5) The mean levels of attitude of adolescents regarding smoking cessation as the primary prevention of lung cancer were not significantly different when they were grouped according to gender, religion, family income, family history of cancer, and history of smoking; 6) There was no linear relationship between the level of knowledge and level of attitude of adolescents regarding smoking cessation as the primary prevention of lung cancer.
